Why is the population of Detroit is steep decline?

During the 2000 Census, the Population of Detroit was over 951,000 but according to Wikipedia, the Population today is less than 867,000 and I was wondering how Detroit could lose over 84,000 residents in a five year time period?
I meant to say “Why is the Population of Detroit in Steep Decline?”

What is the best/your favorite thing to do in Detroit?

The best answer will be in the city (not the suburbs) and it will be off the beaten path-going to a game or musuem isnt going to cut it. People need to know why Detroiters love their city.

Belle Isle bigger than Central Park in NY is one of the best things in the city.

One of my favorite things to do is sit by the water at Chene Park or Hart Plaza-no maybe its the drive down Jefferson, from Detroit through St Clair Shores.
